At a major newspaper printing facility in Sydney, AGV's transport paper reels from and AS/RS storage system to temporary racks and then onto press lines. This plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making Automatic Guided Vehicles an attractive material handling solution. The AGV System has resulted in reduced manual labour costs and minimized product damage.

The 18 AGV's are paper reel fork type vehicles; paper rolls can weigh up to 1800kg, and reach up to 1200mm in diameter. The paper reels can be placed into racks up to 3200mm from floor level.

Laser guidance provides supreme flexibility in navigation and for changes in guide paths. Laser bumpers are standard equipment, allowing a smaller operating space while keeping safety paramount by providing an "invisible" area of protection around the vehicle.

NT7000, NDC's own supervisory control software for complete AGV Systems operation provides coordination of AGV move order execution to synchronize material movement with production demands.
